Grey Ghost: the Joe Falcone emerging shaper interview

Lots of guys in New York shaping surfboards these days but if you ask me there is only a very, very exclusive group of a few people that really take the time to truly sculpt foam well. Joey Clams and his Grey Ghost label out of Queens, NY, is one of those craftsmen that obviously puts a lot of time, effort, and know-how into his craft. You know it and feel it the first time you pick up one of his boards…

Local “shapers” that have been going through the motions for years and decades before Clam’s touched a planer can learn a thing or two about creating quality surfcraft the first time they get a look at one of his creations. Joe’s now contracting his lamination work out to Natures Shapes under the supervision of glassmaster and NY surf legend, Ed Fawess. Look for Grey Ghost production to be on the rise in 2009. From now on Clam’s creations are all New York, all the time. You can fondle a Grey Ghost at Mollusk NYC if you’re lucky enough to be there while they have some in-stock.
