Podcast Reviews

Podcast: FUEL TV: Surf … Rating: Overhead Barrels
If you watch FUEL TV you’ll love this podcast b/c it packages all their little surf snips for their various shows in one area (Fins, Firsthand, Drive Thru, On Surfari, etc.). If you don’t have FUEL TV here’s your chance to download everything surf-related that you’ve been missing by not having access to the channel. Subscribe and download them all, it’s definitely worth watching on your ipod or your computer. [a couple of promo shorts you have to sort through, but the rest of the show snips seem worth it to me]

Podcast: ZOO YORK SURF PODCAST … Rating: Chest-high & Clean
It seems that ZOO YORK only has one episode out but if you’re from the NY area I think it’s worth the download b/c it’s an introduction to their newest team member, TJ Gumiela. Only a minute and a half but it’s a cool mini highlight reel of a little bit of what TJ has been up to lately. Add more footage and I’d up the rating but what they got is decent and it’s TJ so I can’t complain and I do recommend.

Podcast: BROOKLYN SURFER: [all podcasts] … Rating: Summer Flatspell
It’s just a bunch of promos for the local clothing label and they got the right idea but the footage is low to mid-grade at best and not at all worth my time to download in it’s current state (which is about 10 seconds). They look like a bunch of 1 minute TV spots and I have no idea why they are listed as podcasts.

Grey Ghost: the Joe Falcone emerging shaper interview

Lots of guys in New York shaping surfboards these days but if you ask me there is only a very, very exclusive group of a few people that really take the time to truly sculpt foam well. Joey Clams and his Grey Ghost label out of Queens, NY, is one of those craftsmen that obviously puts a lot of time, effort, and know-how into his craft. You know it and feel it the first time you pick up one of his boards…

Local “shapers” that have been going through the motions for years and decades before Clam’s touched a planer can learn a thing or two about creating quality surfcraft the first time they get a look at one of his creations. Joe’s now contracting his lamination work out to Natures Shapes under the supervision of glassmaster and NY surf legend, Ed Fawess. Look for Grey Ghost production to be on the rise in 2009. From now on Clam’s creations are all New York, all the time. You can fondle a Grey Ghost at Mollusk NYC if you’re lucky enough to be there while they have some in-stock. The Roots Retire … !!!?

Wow!— The Roots retire and become Jimmy Fallon’s house band. I’ll watch every night now … Alright, maybe not.

When I was in 11th grade Captain Kirk used to play guitar in our homeroom - With his type of talent there was nobody doubting that he would go so far and it was only natural that he would end up in The Roots crew …

The Crisis of Credit Visualized
